Ibrahim Jalees’s Travel Writing: A Research and Critical Review

Abstract

This study examines the development of Urdu travel writing with special reference to Ibrahim Jalees. It analyzes his major travelogues, particularly Nai Deewar-e-China, Bengal Mein Ajnabi, and Jadunagri America.The study explores the historical and literary development of Urdu travel writing. It highlights Jalees’s keen observation and detailed description of different societies and cultures. His use of humour, satire, and social criticism is also examined. The study discusses the political, social, and cultural aspects reflected in his travel accounts. Jalees combines journalistic observation with literary expression and personal experience. His travelogues provide valuable insights into the places, people, and conditions he observed. The research also highlights his distinctive narrative style and critical approach. The study concludes that Ibrahim Jalees made a significant contribution to Urdu travel literature.
