The Role of Educational and Judicial Systems in Eradicating Tatfeef (Dishonesty): A Research Study in the Islamic Perspective

Abstract

The Qur'anic concept of Tatfīf (fraud, deficiency, or injustice in measurement and rights) extends far beyond commercial dishonesty and encompasses every form of negligence, deception, and violation of human rights. The Holy Qur'an strongly condemns all manifestations of Tatfīf because they undermine justice, social harmony, and economic stability. Contemporary societies experience various forms of Tatfīf not only in trade and commerce but also in education, administration, judiciary, research, public services, and governance. This study aims to examine the role of the educational and judicial systems in preventing Tatfīf from an Islamic perspective. The research adopts a qualitative and analytical methodology based primarily on the Qur'an, Sunnah, classical Islamic jurisprudence, and contemporary scholarly literature. The study explores the conceptual framework of Tatfīf, its causes and consequences, and evaluates the preventive mechanisms established by Islamic teachings. Particular attention has been given to moral education, value-based curricula, judicial accountability, legal deterrence, and institutional supervision.The study concludes that the eradication of Tatfīf requires an integrated approach in which educational institutions cultivate honesty, trustworthiness, and accountability, while the judicial system ensures the effective implementation of justice and legal sanctions. The Prophetic model and the practices of the Rightly Guided Caliphs provide practical examples of institutional integrity and public accountability. The paper recommends strengthening ethical education, reforming legal institutions in light of Islamic principles, enhancing public awareness, and establishing transparent accountability mechanisms to minimize all forms of Tatfīf in contemporary Muslim societies.
